Advocacy Day

About: The purpose of Advocacy Day is to extend the mission of LSPA by influencing the legislative houses. Often this is accomplished by having participants discuss specific legislation/bills that LSPA is advocating for or against with lawmakers. This may be done formally in a committee session or meeting with legislators in the Rotunda/Memorial Hall where we typically have tables set up advertising our organization and profession. Participation is FREE.

Guests: Depending on the day/time/topics we will be advocating for, it may be appropriate to bring guests or family members to Advocacy Day.

Location: Louisiana State Capitol, Rotunda/Memorial Hall, 900 North 3rd Street, Baton Rouge, LA

Dates: 2018 Date TBA. Set-up and Clean-up before and after.
  • This is typically planned for a spring/early summer date when educational or mental health legislation will be discussed in committee. LSPA does it's best to make sure we are present when both house and senate are in session.

Upcoming events

    • 16 Apr 2018
    • 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM
    • Louisiana Capital, Rotunda/Memorial Hall

Each year LSPA advocates for our profession and the students of Louisiana at the Louisiana State Capitol in the Rotunda/Memorial Hall. Discussion points will be provided.

The LSPA Executive Council invites you to join us at the 4th Annual LSPA Advocacy Day at the Capitol. Members will meet in the rotunda from 10am-2pm April 16, 2018, to serve a light lunch to legislators in the rotunda and spread awareness for our profession.

We are also looking for members who would be willing to schedule meetings with their legislators while there. An LSPA Executive Council member will attend these meetings with you and provide prepared talking points. We are asking members to please register for this event so we know how many are coming. If you have never taken part in this event, consider making 2018 your first year to join in! Members who have participated in the past indicated it was a fun and informative experience.

If you require an agenda in order to request leave, please email me at lspa.publicrelations@gmail.com

Unsure who your legislators are? Check here:  http://www.legis.la.gov/legis/FindMyLegislators.aspx

We are looking for members who would be willing to meet with their legislators as well. An LSPA executive council member would be available to attend the meeting with you with prepared talking points. These times would be dependent upon your legislator's availability.
